What Cake Fights and Facebook Contests Taught Us About Building a Business
Think starting a business is messy?
You’ve clearly never been in one of Mom’s cake fights. She’d throw frosting like a pro and still manage to make you laugh while you wiped it out of your hair.
And the Facebook contests? She didn’t just play—she won.
Relentless tagging, strategic sharing, and a little charm got her results every time. Turns out, those same lessons—embrace the mess, stay consistent, and always go all in—are exactly what we needed to get Dot & Daughters off the ground.
She wasn’t just the heart of our family—she was the ringleader. The one you called when life went sideways, who’d show up with advice, a hug, or a sarcastic joke to make you laugh-cry. Her laugh was loud, her love was bigger, and her way of making everyone feel included was unmatched.
She didn’t just support us—she set the bar high. Work ethic? Impeccable. Creativity? Endless. Sense of humor? Sharp enough to leave a mark. She showed us how to live generously, fully, and with a little flair.
Why We Started Dot & Daughters Management
Bringing Her Spirit Into Business
We created Dot & Daughters to bring her energy, warmth, and values into the professional world. She was compassionate, reliable, and always there when you needed her. That’s exactly how we want to serve our clients: as trusted partners who care deeply about their success.
Building on Experience
Over the past four years, we’ve worked alongside some of the best in the industry. We’ve learned what works, what doesn’t, and what clients need most. Now, we’re ready to take that knowledge and create a business that feels personal, supportive, and effective.
What We Offer (And What You’re Missing)
I bet you’re reading this story and thinking, “I wish I had time for a cake fight.” Or even time to make it to the dinner table, for that matter. Maybe those weekend plans you promised yourself—family hikes, game nights, just being there—never seem to go as planned.
We get it. Life gets busy, and when you’re running a business, it feels like there’s always something pulling you away from the moments that really matter. But here’s the thing: it doesn’t have to be that way.
At Dot & Daughters Management, we’re here to help you create the space to show up—for your family, your friends, and yourself. We don’t just offer business solutions; we take the chaos out of the equation so you can get back to what’s important.
Here’s how we do it:
We Make It Manageable: We bring clarity and direction to your business, so you have the bandwidth to focus on what you love.
We’re On Your Side: Think of us as the support system that never lets you down, the family that steps in when you need an extra hand.
We Keep It Grounded: Our solutions aren’t just practical—they’re personal. We work with you to create something that feels right for your goals and your life.
Our mom believed in showing up. For birthdays, dinners, cake fights—whatever it was, she made time for the people she loved. That’s the spirit we bring to every client relationship.
If you’re tired of missing the moments that matter, let’s talk. We’re here to help you build a business that works for you—not the other way around. Because at the end of the day, family is what it’s all about, and we’re here to make sure you get to show up for yours.
Honoring Her Legacy
Living Her Values
Everything we do at Dot & Daughters reflects what Mom taught us: to show up, be kind, and put your whole heart into your work. She believed in doing things right, no matter how big or small, and that’s the standard we hold ourselves to every day.
A Business She’d Be Proud Of
Mom always said, “If you’re going to do something, do it well.” We carry that with us as we build this company. Our goal is to create a business that not only helps others but also reflects the love and dedication she gave to everything she did.
Our mom wasn’t just the heart of our family; she was the glue that held it all together. She was only 58 when we lost her to lung cancer, and it’s hard to put into words what it feels like to lose someone with so much life left to live. She wasn’t ready to go, and we weren’t ready to let her go.
Even during her hardest days, she found a way to keep laughing, keep smiling, and keep making every moment count. That’s who she was. She taught us that no matter what life throws at you, you can still show up for the people you love. That’s what we carry with us every day.
Losing her so young left us with a lot of heartache, but it also gave us purpose. Everything we do at Dot & Daughters is inspired by her—her work ethic, her compassion, her ability to make everyone feel seen and supported. We want to be that for our clients, the way she was for us: someone you can count on, someone who shows up no matter what.
Her fight with cancer also gave us a determination to make a difference. We support cancer research and take part in events whenever we can. Whether it’s walking in her honor, raising funds, or simply keeping her story alive, it’s our way of fighting for a future where more families get to keep their moms around a little longer.
This isn’t just a business to us. It’s her legacy. It’s how we make sure her light doesn’t dim, even though she’s no longer here. Every decision we make, every client we help, and every small win we celebrate—it’s all for her.
We miss her every single day, but we know she’s watching over us, probably with that half-smile she always gave when she was proud. This business is our way of showing up for her, for ourselves, and for the people we’re lucky enough to work with.
